Celebrating a decade of shared learning and reform.
Since 2016, the Centre for Healthcare Knowledge & Innovation (CHKI) has been a trusted home for knowledge exchange. Established on the North Coast of NSW as a Healthy North Coast (HNC) program, CHKI was created as a practical space where practitioners, policymakers, researchers, and community leaders could explore new models of care and build reform capability grounded in real-world systems.
Ten years on, CHKI supports organisations and individuals nationally and internationally to learn from health systems. Our annual program of events is shaped by a long-standing relationship with the International Foundation for Integrated Care (IFIC), a global network focused on improving health outcomes and system performance through integrated care. CHKI, while grounded in its North Coast NSW roots, today operates as a national platform for cross-jurisdictional learning, applied reform education, and system-level capability building – supporting people to move from insight to action, wherever they are working.
What we do
CHKI delivers education and knowledge exchange that accelerates real-world health system reform. We deliver immersive accelerated learning programs, webinars, workshops, pathways for formal accreditation, site visits, study tours, shared research and newsletter stories – all designed to move people beyond theory and into practical action.
We support critical stages of health system reform while advancing the science, knowledge, and adoption of integrated care in Australia. We are dedicated to improving the lives of people and communities by strengthening how care is designed, governed, and delivered – locally and globally. Our learning journeys combine insights, tools, and real-world examples that participants can adapt and apply within their own organisational, regional, or policy context, and are designed to spark new thinking, build capability, and support participants to move from understanding to impact.
Our six-phase reform approach:
1. Problem Identification
We listen closely to our networks to identify emerging system challenges. When patterns surface, we frame them as shared problems for collective exploration.
2. Sensemaking & Exploration
We convene diverse stakeholders to unpack complexity, challenge assumptions, and deepen understanding – laying the foundations for meaningful and sustainable reform.
3. Option Generation
We analyse national and international case studies to understand what worked, what didn’t, and why, generating practical ideas and contextual insights for local and regional application.
4. Decision Making & Policy Design
We introduce integrated care frameworks and policy design tools that translate ideas into strategy, embedding cultural, environmental, and justice perspectives from the outset.
5. Implementation Tools
We provide practical tools, applied learning, and real-world insights to support the shift from planning to delivery, strengthening confidence and system capability.
6. Evaluation Support
We support teams to embed evaluation from the start – measuring what matters, tracking progress, and building a culture of learning, accountability, and continuous improvement.
